Setting Reading Goals: 2016

Hello Book Lovers!

Happy 2016! I’m so excited to start off this year back on the blog. I hope your new year has started off great! Today I want to talk about reading goals for the new year. Last year I spent a lot of time on  reading challenges and how many books I thought I should read for the new year. However, this year I’m making some changes. Instead of focusing on what I think I should do reading wise, I’m going to just enjoy reading again!

With that said, I did set one reading goal. I set my GoodReads 2016 goal for 50 books. Even though I set a concrete goal, I’m not going to put pressure on myself to complete it. This year I want to get back to my roots; I want to go and just focus on my love of reading and sharing it with you. 😊 Whether that be five books or 50 books I don’t want to hold myself to  some goal that I’m going to constantly stress about. I decided to set the GoodReads goal partly from the tradition of doing so and partly to see how close I come to accomplishing it with my new “read stress-free” philosophy this year.

This year it’s all about reading what I want, reading what I love and reading without stress or pressure!

Setting reading goals seems like something that’s always been mandatory for the new year. It’s something I always thought I had to do and something I always planned and participated in. While I do feel like setting goals is still a fun thing to do come the new year, I usually felt my self defeated if I did not complete them by the end of the year (this was the same for reading challenges). So, time around I want to focus more on the fun and less on the stress. While I might still glance at some reading challenges such as the debut author challenge and the flight of fantasy or finishing the series, I’m not going to officially participate in them. I most likely am going to use them as a guide for reading or for picking up/finding certain books this year.

While this is my strategy, it might not be yours. So, let me know what your strategy or goal is for reading this year in the comments below! I hope you all have a happy wonderful reading filled year!
