#ReadThemAllThon Read-A-Thon Update

Good Morning Lovelies!

So I’m currently writing this update from the airport as I’m flying back up to Boston this morning 🙂 I’m anxious but excited for this semester. I have two classes, an internship and my part-time job, but I’m confident that I’ll be able to pull it all off haha. Well I’m going to have to haha.

Anyway, I’ve been kind of terrible at this read-a-thon to be honest. I’ve only finished three of the eight books planned and the challenge ends this weekend!! But I’m happy that I got to spend some time with family and work on weeding my room of unnecessary things (which I still have to finish eep!). I also actually didn’t have some of the books I planned to read. They were packed up with my move, but my movers still have yet to deliver my goods. They gave me a 7-14 business day window so I guess they still have time, but I wasn’t really expecting them to take this long to deliver my things back to me. So three of the books on my list are currently stored away in tubs somewhere in Massachusetts away from me 🙁

With that said, I’m still planning to read It Ends With Us before the end of the challenge, so then I’ll have at least finished half of the planned books and that’s respectable right?!

Okay, so here are my stats thus far!

Eevee evolved! I’m so excited that Eevee was able to evolve and that I got at least that far in the challenge haha. But she doesn’t evolve any further. I also chose her to evolve into Flareon because I’m a pyromaniac haha but no I just think this evolution is the cutest one right now 🙂

The Lightning Thief was a quick & fast read! I really enjoyed reading Percy’s story already 🙂 I feel like I’m so behind on this series & the world that Riordan has created, but I’m excited to catch up! Percy & his friends were great as characters and I look forward to seeing what other adventures they might go on! A longer review to come! 4 Stars.

Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi was a beautiful & heartbreaking novel. Gyasi did a wonderful job of bringing to life the history of Ghana. I felt riveted to every page as I watched both Effia & Esi’s generational lines unfold. None of their descendants had it easy. It was hard to read at some points and all I wanted to do was reach in and give each character a hug. I kept hoping that one of them would eventually have an easier time and I did see that a bit at the end with the closer to present-day descendants. This book definitely made me think & it opened up my eyes to a history & point of view that I’m not as familiar with. This was definitely a 5 star book & I recommend it to everyone to try it out! 5 stars.

I thought the story was a bit cheeky & seemed to poke fun at some of the original story which I found entertaining. I enjoyed this updated version; although I think I’ll enjoy it more as I reread it in the future & grow closer to the main characters ages. Still, I can’t not enjoy a P&P modernization. At its core is still the same story that I love so much 🙂 4 Stars.
