From the bestselling author of Suddenly Royal comes the first in a sparkling new series about America’s favorite royal—the First Daughter.
Everyone makes mistakes, especially in college. But when you’re the daughter of the President of the United States, any little slip up is a huge embarrassment. Maddie McGuire’s latest error in judgment lands her in police custody, giving the press a field day. Agreeing to do community service as penance and to restore her tattered reputation, Maddie never dreams incredibly good looking but extremely annoying vice president’s son, Jake Simmon, will be along for the ride.
Recently returning from Afghanistan with a life-altering injury, Jake is wrestling with his own demons. He doesn’t have the time or patience to deal with the likes of Maddie. They’re like oil and water and every time they’re together, it’s combustible. But there’s a thin line between love and hate, and it’s not long before their fiery arguments give way to infinitely sexier encounters. When Jake receives devastating news about the last remaining member of his unit, the darkness he’s resisted for so long begins to overwhelm him. Scared to let anyone close, he pushes Maddie away. But she isn’t about to give up on Jake that easily. Maddie’s fallen for him, and she’ll do anything to keep him from the edge as they both discover that love is a battlefield and there are some fights you just can’t lose.
Hello Loves!
I apologize for being so MIA lately! School + Internship + Work = a busy, stressed out me lol. So I’ve kind of put blogging on the back burner until I can get back to it. I’m finally starting to settle into some kind of rhythm so I should be back up to speed soon!
With that said, today I get to share with you a review on a New Adult book I enjoyed a lot! You know I have a weakness for romance and I’m always searching for New Adult & Romance recommendations. I was super happy to be able to get a chance to be a part of this blog tour and have an opportunity to read this book early to review for you all! I received an ARC of Bedmates by Nichole Chase from InkSlinger PR/HarperCollins in exchange for an honest review (see below) and this in no way effects my opinions on this book at all.

My Rating:
Bedmates by Nichole Chase follows Maddie McGuire, a normal college student for the most part. I mean there’s that tiny little fact that she’s the President’s daughter and all, but really that’s nothing. Except for when Maddie slips up a bit and gets arrested. That doesn’t really go over well with her Dad or the White House. So to do penance Maddie’s assigned to do some community service with the organization RCVA. While she doesn’t like being in the spotlight, Maddie agrees to help out the cause. Little did she know that she’d have to team up with the golden-boy, Jake who just happens to be the Vice President’s son!
Jake just got back from Afghanistan with a life-alternating injury. He isn’t in the mood to be doing the press circuit or having to deal with Maddie and her argumentative nature. He’s got his own demons to wrestle with. But once the two are thrust together again, it’s not long before the spark ignites! Then Jake receives some devastating news and begins to push Maddie away. Will these two political bedmates make it in the end? (see full synopsis on GoodReads here).
I have to say that I was honestly going into this book slightly biased. I have read a Nichole Chase book before and really loved her writing style and ability to create a sweet romance! The other factor had to do with the fact that I’m a sucker for men in uniform so I already knew I’d be swooning over Jake! With that said, I definitely wasn’t disappointed by this book at all!
Maddie was very relatable for me. I loved her never-stop work ethic and energy. I loved that she was strong and didn’t let people push her around. I loved that she cared so much–not just her passion for animals, but the people around her. She was genuinely a caring character which I related to so much. I also enjoyed that she was mature enough to recognize her mistakes and to move on from them in the beginning. I loved seeing her tackle things outside of her comfort zone as well as seeing her relationship develop with Jake.
Jake was a great guy. He was funny and I loved seeing the way he evolved throughout the novel. Were there times I wanted to yell and shake him? Yes, yes there were. But I’m so glad some other characters got to do that for me!
Chase did such a wonderful job of writing this story. I really appreciated that she wanted to tackle something like PTSD within this novel. I felt she took a realistic approach and one that I don’t always see with the way she presented it in Jake. Yes some of the symptoms were there as we got to see the story from Jake’s POV sometimes, but we also saw how someone can easily hide the symptoms too. Jake and Cyrus’s stories and struggles really got under my skin and I felt for them as characters and as veterans.
Now let’s talk romance! Boy was there heat in this novel! Chase did a great job of building up and playing on the chemistry between the two characters. Since they had a previous history, it was great seeing the way that the sparks reignited and turned into something a lot more now that they were reconnected. Sometimes chemistry and heat don’t read well or doesn’t come across in the right way, but Chase definitely nailed it 😉
Also her dialogue is so on point! The characters really had a clear voice and I loved a lot of the almost mundane conversations some of them had. Her dialogue read so flawless that I really heard each of the character’s voice. Not many people can do dialogue well and I applaud Chase’s skills!
Overall, I really enjoyed this novel. I laughed, cried and definitely blushed reading this in public sometimes! But Bedmates really had all the things I love about a romance & New Adult novel. Chase has become an autobuy author for me and I can’t wait to see where the next story in this series goes…maybe Ari or Caro? I’d love to see their stories *hint hint* If you’re looking for a next romance or New Adult read then check this one out!
