Month in Review: September 2016

Hello lovelies!

October is here in full swing! That means colder weather, fall colors, warm drinks and cozy over-sized sweaters are all around and I couldn’t be happier! Fall is my favorite season and I’m so excited that it’s finally here!

In terms of blogging, I didn’t achieve what I wanted to this month. School, my internship and work got in the way big time. But hopefully now that I’m slightly into the swing of things I can hop back on the blogging regularly train that I enjoyed so much with August 😉

Anyway, more on my life below! Check out all the things that was September 🙂

September hauls were a bit light. I have been focusing on reading more of what I own + my new living situation isn’t conducive to a whole lot of book buying lol. I have to fly home after this semester so there’s not a lot of room in the suitcase for books, though I am contemplating shipping some home 0_o.

With that said I did pick up two titles: Genius: The Game by Leopoldo Gout and M Train by Patti Smith

I also have the ability to borrow ARCs from my workplace. I work at an awesome Independent Bookshop focused on children’s books! So I’ve taken home some of those to dig into, but not many. And lastly, I’ve been raiding the library. Now that I’m interning in the Children’s Room of a local public library, I’ve been grabbing books left and right to read!

Unfortunately I didn’t attend any bookish events this month 🙁 There were some happening around Boston though, like the Boston Teen Author Festival and then of course the Horn Book awards that took place this past weekend. Unfortunately on both occasions I was working. I do love where I work so that made up for it for the most part :).

Basically this month was all about adjusting to my new schedule. I’m interning during the first half of the week, going to class on Thursdays and then working Friday and Saturdays. My only day off (mostly) is Sundays lol. So I’m scheduled out to the max. While I have been able to get some reading in, I haven’t been able to do as much blogging. I’m hoping to change that this month now that I’m getting more adjusted to the schedule, but we will see!

One fun thing I did get to do was the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in honor of my grandmother who is currently suffering from it.

It was a beautiful Fall morning for the walk. Not too chilly, but definitely crisper. I loved the sunshine and seeing all the things along the route. It took place at a park in Cambridge, but it was also right along the water and we passed by some boats docked as well as being able to see the navy yard in the distance. It was such an enjoyable walk and it was so beautiful seeing all the flowers in remembrance! I’m going to hopefully participate each year where ever I’m located since this disease is close to home and I really hope we work towards finding a cure!

That’s pretty much it for September. Can’t wait to see what October brings! Thanks so much for stopping by!

I loved Brown Girl Dreaming. I have the audiobook narrated by the author and it was marvelous. I have M Train, too. Patti is one of my music idols. I hope to get to it soon. It is wonderful that you participated in the walk in honor of your grandmother. Here’s to a great October. 🙂

I’ve heard a lot of very mixed reviews for The Selection, but it sounds like something I’d enjoy. Have you read The Glittering Court? I’ve heard a lot of comparisons. I also really need to read We Should All Be Feminists.

I haven’t read the Glittering Court but I’ve also heard some mixed reviews on that one as well! Yeah I wasn’t the biggest fan of The Selection when I first read it but then IDK I went back to it after my friend really liked it (giving it a second try and all) and ended up really enjoying this time around. At first I wasn’t a fan of the MC, but this second time around I thought she was a pretty strong character. Though in Book 2 I was really unsure again with BOTH characters haha. Thanks for stopping by!! And yes you should read We Should All Be Feminists! I really liked it!

I’ve read Americanah by her, and I know I like her style, I just somehow forget it every time I go to find a book to read! I may give The Selection a try on audiobook, since I know hoopla has it on file.
