Good Morning Book Lovers,
As I’ve mentioned in some of my earlier posts, this year I’m focusing on reading the books I already own before buying more books/taking out library books. Of course I’ll still be picking up some new books & supporting my library (as a librarian and all 😉 ), but 2017 for me will mainly be about reading what I already own.
In 2016, I went a little book-buying crazy. I discovered BookOutlet.com & became very active on my #Bookstagram account. This lead to a lot more book purchasing then I normally have done in the past. This also lead to more unread books of books I own.
So Austine & Tia (Novel Knight)’s challenge couldn’t come at a better time! Austine & Tia are hosting the Beat the Backlist challenge for 2017. The challenge “is focused on knocking off titles that have been on your TBR for a while, or even ones that get pushed aside for new releases” (Austine & Tia, Novel Knight). The challenge is taking place during the whole year & will include some readathons, twitter chats, instagram challenges & a mini Hogwarts House Cup challenge as well. If you want to read more & sign up yourself you can do so here: 2017 Beat the Backlist Challenge.
So my overall goal for this challenge is to read 50 books that I already own/were published before this year. I’ve put together a preliminary list of the books I’m hoping to read this year for this challenge. I took my inspiration for Austine’s TBR post 🙂

I’m sure I’ll be altering this list throughout the year as I have so many more books then these that I own, but haven’t read yet and because I’m a mood reader. I’m keeping a detailed Excel sheet of books I haven’t read that I might post up here if I’m not too embarrassed because seriously guys I have A LOT of books that I own that I haven’t read yet. So hopefully I can read down my TBR & beat the backlist this year (& probably next too lol).
Are you Beating the Backlist this year? Have any books you own that you haven’t read yet? Let me know below so we can discuss/bond/not feel so guilty ’cause we’re not alone haha
Happy Reading!

12 January 2017 at 6:39 pmI have Half Bad, Poison Study, and The Darkest Minds on my list, too! I will recommend Thorn, Blue Lily, Lily Blue, Going Bovine, and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer. I loved all of them. Good Luck. I think I set my goal at 25. I just did an inventory of all of my unread physical books and there were over 60! I thought there was going to be around 20. Ha ha. Good luck. 🙂
