Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020

Hello Lovelies,

I haven’t done a Top Ten Tuesday in a really long time, but I figured–‘why not?’ So here we are. 🙂 See below from some upcoming YA & MG reads that I’m looking forward to. Of course this isn’t all the books I’m looking forward to, but these are definitely high on my list. I’m also thinking of doing an Adult Fiction/NonFiction list for next Tuesday as well instead of next week’s prompt so stay tuned for that.

Top Ten Tuesday was created by The Broke and the Bookish in June of 2010 and was moved to That Artsy Reader Girl in January of 2018. It was born of a love of lists, a love of books, and a desire to bring bookish friends together.

Jaxon and Grace’s story continues in New York Times bestselling author Tracy Wolff’s captivating sequel to Crave. I’m in the fight of my life. For my humanity. For Jaxon. And for the world I’ve only just begun to be a part of. I’m all in, even if saving the people I love means I risk losing myself forever.

I wasn’t expecting to like Crave so much when I read it, but I did and now I’m very much excited to read this next book!

A fast-paced original paperback thriller about a girl who discovers that her mother might not be who she says she is . . . and now someone is hunting them both.

Katelyn wants the best for her widowed mom. Surprising her with an online dating profile seems like a good idea.

It isn't. Katelyn's mom hasn't just been acting overprotective all these years--she's been hiding something. And now that anyone can find them online, Katelyn is in a desperate race against time to uncover the secrets of the past--not only her mom's, but also her own. As Katelyn's world unravels, she begins to trust the guy who brought this nightmare to her door and to doubt the one person she never thought she would. Because her mom has been hiding for a reason: she's been waiting.

Among romance novels, I’ve been reaching for mystery/thrillers and this one seems right up my ally!

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020Sword of the Seven Sins by Emily Colin
Published by Blue Crow Books on 6 July 2020
Pages: 300
Goodreads

From Emily Colin, author of the New York Times bestselling novel The Memory Thief.

Eva Marteinn never wanted to be a killer.

Raised in the Commonwealth, where citizens live and die by the code of the Seven Sins, Eva is sickened by the barbaric punishments the High Priests inflict. She sees the Bellators of Light, the Commonwealth's executioners, as no more than conscienceless killers.

When she's Chosen as the first female bellator—and can't refuse, on threat of exile or disgrace—Eva is devastated. But she turns out to be inordinately gifted at the very role she abhors…no thanks to her mentor, Ari Shepherd, who alternates between ignoring her and challenging her to impossible tests.

Ari's indifference conceals a dangerous secret: He's loved Eva since they were children. When Eva falls for Ari too, she knows they should do anything to avoid each other. Love is forbidden. Lust is a death sentence. But as mentor and apprentice, they're bound by the blood oath they swore the day of Eva's Choosing.

Balanced on a razor's edge of desire and betrayal, the two uncover a secret that could overturn the Commonwealth itself. Now Eva must make an impossible choice: Turn her back on Ari, and remain loyal to the only home she's ever known—or risk everything on the slim hope of freedom, and stake her life on the boy she's come to love.

I used to read nothing but Fantasy but haven’t dabbled in a while so I’m excited to dig into this Fantasy novel. It sounds intriguing and also seems to have a slight enemies to lovers vibe which I’m so down with!

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020More Than Just a Pretty Face by Syed M. Masood
on 4 August 2020
Pages: 352
Goodreads

For fans of Becky Albertalli and Jenny Han, a sweetly funny YA rom-com debut about falling in love, familial expectations, and being a Renaissance Man.

Danyal Jilani doesn't lack confidence. He may not be the smartest guy in the room, but he's funny, gorgeous, and going to make a great chef one day. His father doesn't approve of his career choice, but that hardly matters. What does matter is the opinion of Danyal's longtime crush, the perfect-in-all-ways Kaval, and her family, who consider him a less than ideal arranged marriage prospect.

When Danyal gets selected for Renaissance Man--a school-wide academic championship--it's the perfect opportunity to show everyone he's smarter than they think. He recruits the brilliant, totally-uninterested-in-him Bisma to help with the competition, but the more time Danyal spends with her...the more he learns from her...the more he cooks for her...the more he realizes that happiness may be staring him right in his pretty face.

This sounds like a rom-com YA that I’d fall easily in love with.

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020The Canyon's Edge by Dusti Bowling

Hatchet meets Long Way Down in this heartfelt and gripping novel in verse about a young girl's struggle for survival after a climbing trip with her father goes terribly wrong.
One year after a random shooting changed their family forever, Nora and her father are exploring a slot canyon deep in the Arizona desert, hoping it will help them find peace. Nora longs for things to go back to normal, like they were when her mother was still alive, while her father keeps them isolated in fear of other people. But when they reach the bottom of the canyon, the unthinkable happens: A flash flood rips across their path, sweeping away Nora's father and all of their supplies.

Suddenly, Nora finds herself lost and alone in the desert, facing dehydration, venomous scorpions, deadly snakes, and, worst of all, the Beast who has terrorized her dreams for the past year. If Nora is going to save herself and her father, she must conquer her fears, defeat the Beast, and find the courage to live her new life.

I’ve read a few MG survival stories, but all were with a male/boy POV. I’m very interested in seeing how this type of story is told through a female POV.

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020Maya and the Rising Dark by Rena Barron

Fantasy novel about a younger girl needing to save the world?! Yup, I’m here for this and will quickly devour it I’m sure.

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020Kingdom of the Wicked (Kingdom of the Wicked, #1) by Kerri Maniscalco
on 27 October 2020
Goodreads

The #1 New York Times bestselling author Kerri Maniscalco introduces her next blockbuster series, a dark, intoxicating tale of a beautiful young witch, a troubled demon, and their epic romance, set against a lush 19th century Italian backdrop.

Emilia and her twin sister Victoria are streghe - witches who live secretly among humans, avoiding notice and persecution. One night, Victoria misses dinner service at the family's renowned Sicilian restaurant. Emilia soon finds the body of her beloved twin...desecrated beyond belief. Devastated, Emilia sets out to discover who did this, and to seek vengeance at any cost—even if it means using dark magic that’s been long forbidden.

Then Emilia meets Wrath, the outlier among the seven demon brethren, always choosing duty over pleasure. He’s been tasked by his master with investigating a series of women’s murders on the island. When Emilia and Wrath’s fates collide, it’s clear this disturbing mystery will take a bewitching turn...

I saw a lot of books coming out seem to have twins as main characters. I really love Kerri Maniscalco’s Stalking Jack the Ripper series and when I saw this new series was coming out this year I knew I wanted to read it! It has the same dark mystery of her other series and also set in a historical fiction setting, so I’m definitely excited for this one!

Top Ten Tuesday: Most Anticipated Releases for the Second Half of 2020Rent a Boyfriend by Gloria Chao
Published by Simon Schuster Books for Young Readers on 10 November 2020
Pages: 400
Goodreads

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before meets The Farewell in this incisive romantic comedy about a college student who hires a fake boyfriend to appease her traditional Taiwanese parents, to disastrous results, from the acclaimed author of American Panda.

Chloe Wang is nervous to introduce her parents to her boyfriend, because the truth is, she hasn’t met him yet either. She hired him from Rent for Your ’Rents, a company specializing in providing fake boyfriends trained to impress even the most traditional Asian parents.

Drew Chan’s passion is art, but after his parents cut him off for dropping out of college to pursue his dreams, he became a Rent for Your ’Rents employee to keep a roof over his head. Luckily, learning protocols like “Type C parents prefer quiet, kind, zero-PDA gestures” comes naturally to him.

When Chloe rents Drew, the mission is simple: convince her parents fake Drew is worthy of their approval so they’ll stop pressuring her to accept a proposal from Hongbo, the wealthiest (and slimiest) young bachelor in their tight-knit Asian American community. But when Chloe starts to fall for the real Drew—who, unlike his fake persona, is definitely not ’rent-worthy—her carefully curated life begins to unravel. Can she figure out what she wants before she loses everything?

That cover!!! This sounds almost like a YA version of The Wedding Date so I’m very much looking forward to digging into this contemporary romance YA!

Let me know if any of these are on your Top Ten list! If not, drop your list below! I’d love to see what everyone is looking forward to!

Happy Reading!
